Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I think that a Spartan is a perfect name for us because we are strong and powerful.
Sincerely,
Cheyenne Divine
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I don’t believe that Spartan is a great mascot for our school for the following reasons: In Sparta, Spartans were only educated to keep their people from rebelling. They wanted people to join the military or to have children, so they were really only focused on physical education. Physical education is only part of our schooling today. Also, they did not treat unhealthy well. In fact, they were left to die. Antioch is nothing like that. We support one another no mater our abilities. I believe that Spartans should not be our mascot.
Sincerely,
Emily Whitaker
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, of all, the Spartans cares about war. We don’t have war, but our equivalent would be sports. Everyone loves our sports teams. Secondly, the Spartans cared a lot about education. The Antioch Spartans provide one of the best educational experiences in the state.
Sincerely,
Dominic Lasker
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I don’t believe that the Spartan is a good mascot because the Spartans left behind people who weren’t healthy, but at Antioch, we accept everybody. I also know because Spartans didn’t feed the children at the schools, but at Antioch, they feed everyone.
Sincerely,
Eli Stephens
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, both women and men were taught to be tough, which will show that we are a brave school like Sparta. The next reason I because their government was shared, which can show that Antioch is all for equal rights. That is why the Spartan is a good mascot for AMS.
Sincerely,
Jarissa Lara
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I do not believe the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. To begin with, the Spartans focused more on military training than basic reading and writing. Most schools today value reading and writing over the modern-day military equivalent, sports. The second and final reason I that Spartan men would leave infants unfit for the army to die outside the city. I believe this is cruel.
Sincerely,
Avery Bradford
Dear Dr. Schnoebelen,
I don’t believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. My first reason I because they made men do all of the hard work and not get much food. When they did not get much food, the men had to steal food and then were beaten because they stole. My second and final reason is because boys and men had to be uncomfortable and cold because they could not wear shoes or heavy coats. We do not leave our people uncomfortable at AMS. If we see someone in need, we help them. These are reasons why I think that our current mascot, the Spartans, is not a good one for our school.
Sincerely,
Mia Urbina
Dear Mrs. Hutchinson,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, a Spartan is a warrior that doesn’t back down from a battle no matter what. If we keep the Spartan, it could show who we really are on our sports team jerseys. We are brave and strong warriors. Next, a Spartan is also disciplined and strong mentally. This proves Antioch Students are everything a Spartan is, so we should keep our mascot.
Sincerely,
Isaac Norberto
Dear Ms. Hutchinson,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for the following reasons.
First, Sparta highly valued discipline and strength. We at AMS show discipline and strength by getting good grades and go above and beyond in our studies and afterschool activities. It also proves we are well behaved and are not little rascals.
Second of all, Sparta has the best of the best soldiers in their military. This could show that the students at AMS have the best sports teams and that we work hard and strive for victory.
Sincerely,

Dear Mrs. Hutchinson,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First of all, Spartan women had more rights than the usual Greek woman. This meant that in their society, it did not seem like boys were better than girls. We are all equal at AMS, like the real Spartans.
Secondly, the Spartans were strong and connected. That is what we are wanting in our school. Thank you for reading this essay. I hope you agree with me.
Sincerely,
Evie Piatkowski
Dear Mrs. Hutchinson,
I don’t believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, Sparta had a lot of slavery, and I don’t think that’s something good to represent our school. Next, Sparta took baby boys immediately from birth and trained them to be soldiers without them having a choice.
Sincerely,
Bo Heilman
Dear Mrs. Hutchinson,
I believe that the Spartans are not a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. My first reason is because the Spartans back in the day used to put a deformed baby or weak baby on the side if a mountain to die. Just because of the looks and perceived strength it did not have. Our school is not like that. We don’t judge people just because of their looks and strength. My other reason is because the Spartans used to whip their people for stealing food. I know that is wrong, but that is their fault for not feeding them.
Sincerely,
Taleea Robinson
Dear Mrs. Hutchinson,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school. The Sparta women and men are treated the same way and have the same education. Also, the Sparta soldiers were very brave, obedient, and strong. They were also disciplined. All the students at Antioch are Spartans who fight with their hearts.
Sincerely,
Chloe King
Dear Mr. Klein,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for the following reasons. First, the Spartans wanted lots of strength. So, they trained all day to gain strength. We learn at AMS every day. They taught them how to battle, protect the city, and to be brave soldiers. This shows that we, too, at Antioch are strong and brave because of our training.
Sincerely,
Isis Medina
Dear Mr. Klein,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, I learned that both genders trained the same, and that, from my perspective, seems that they treated everyone equally. This is what we do at Antioch even through there are some people who believe that girls shouldn’t be playing any “boy sports.” Another reason, is that women and men of Sparta were the freest out of any of the other city-states. I believe that we all should feel free no matter what.
Sincerely,
Dakota Paul
Dear Mr. Klein,
I believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school because it shows our strength and pride. The strength is for our education and behavior. The pride shows our belief in our sports teams and our school spirit.
Sincerely,
Will Horseman
Dear Mr. Klein,
I don’t believe that the Spartan is a good mascot for our school for the following reasons. First, although the Spartans were very serious about discipline and strength, they were very unfair to many citizens of their civilization. For example, if a baby boy was born unhealthy, they would set them outside the wall to die. This possibly gives our school an image we don’t not want to stand for. Also, they would train young boys starting at the age of seven so they were ready for war. Training is fine, but their training was equivalent to torture.
Sincerely,
Annie Hockett
