Since June 8, 1918 the solar eclipse will past the Unites States on August 21,2017. A total solar eclipse is so rare because the alignment of the Earth and the Moon’s shadow are off about 5%. It’s also so rare because sometimes we see partial eclipse or lunar eclipses. Here are the stages of the solar eclipse and what they are.
The starting of the solar eclipse you will see the Moon slowly starting to cover the suns disk. This is the first stage of the solar eclipse, this is called the partial eclipse. This is what we normally see. 35% of solar eclipses are partial eclipse. You might discover that it’s slowly getting darker in the middle of the day. Now after the partial eclipse you might see little “diamond rings” from the Sun’s rays. This happens right before the sun breakup into little “beads”. This is when there is a little part of the Sun has yet to be cover. The “diamond ring effect” only latest for a few seconds.
After the “diamond ring effect” the moon moves just a little bit more slowly starting to cover but now has little “beads” shinning from the sun. This is called “Baily’s Beads”. Bailys beads is the breakup of the “diamond rings” and see a little light on the edge of the moon. This is the very last stage before totality. This is when you will a 360-degree sunset and it starts and the it starts cooling off. Baily’s Beads also latest about for a few seconds before the Moon fully covers the Sun.
Then the very last stage is finally totality. This is the moment that scientists have been waiting for a long time. The moon has complete covered the sun’s disk. Totality only lasts for a few minutes. When the moon covers the sun, the earth starts to cool off and it starts to get dark. If you have the solar glasses on then this is when you can take them and look at the solar eclipse safely. When the moon starts to move over and the sun start appearing again you need to put on your solar glasses. The final stages of the solar eclipse are replicas of the stages before totality. This was a great moment for the Unites States we have experience a spectacular event. This won’t happen again for another two to four years.
