ABOUT US

Obscura Origins: The United States experienced a once, possibly twice, in a lifetime event on August 21, 2017: a total solar eclipse. Once upon a time the skies darkened, the sounds of confused birds went from singing, to squawking, and then they stopped. Millions of people were brought out of their buildings to envelop themselves in afternoon, all be it brief, darkness.
The eighth grade students at Antioch Middle School were encouraged and supported by the English department to write about their experiences in a variety of ways. The students learned about the submission and acceptance processes for professional publications from "call for submissions" to "publication." The students whose work survived our student peer review panel are presented in the premiere issue for your enjoyment.
All subsequent issues are presented with student peer-reviewed submissions by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Antioch Middle School. The journal will feature a variety of subjects and genres.
Beginning with Volume 2 Issue 1, we will be open to ALL students in the North Kansas City School District regardless of building! If you have an interest, talent, or unique viewpoint that will fit our calls for submissions, please follow the submission process to get your piece published! You will be notified of your full acceptance, conditional acceptance, or condolence through the mail.
Thank you for considering writing for us!
